1928 Plymouth 1937 Plymouth Plymouth: The First Decade

2004 Great Race

I must have had my head in the sand. It was not until the Friday before these folks were due to come through town that I was aware of the event. Looking at the Great Race web site. I discovered that car number 9 was a 1932 Plymouth PB owned by Bob Mead. I had corresponded with Bob and a picture of this car has been on my web site for years.

So it was off to Watsonville on July 3rd to see the Great Race cars pull through and, if possible, meet Bob Mead. Fellow Plymouth Owners Club member Bob Semichy and I toured via two lane roads through the foothills and foggy redwood forests of the Santa Cruz mountains in time to get a good parking space by the town square. Our cars gathered quite a bit of attention. I guess people thought that we were in the race. By and by the racers appeared and I was able to meet fellow Univerisity of Rochester alumni and Plymouth enthusiast Bob Mead. Bob is a most pleasant person to visit with and made our day trip to Watsonville worth while.
