1928 Plymouth 1937 Plymouth Plymouth: The First Decade

Golden State Region, Plymouth Owners Club tour to Western Railway Museum Tour

This tour was jointly sponsored by the Golden State Region, Plymouth Owners Club and the California Chrysler Products Club. The weather could not have been better: Clear skies and a high temperature of 73° F.

A couple of us South Bay people met in Milpitas for the 50 mile drive up to the starting point just east of the Caldecutt Tunnel on Hwy 24. (The tunnel opening has a very interesting Art Deco motif that we were unable to properly capture on film.) We had ten cars show up for the event but only a couple of them were Plymouths. There was even a "other brand" 1937 school bus. What is this world coming to?

The first leg of the trip took us to the Riverview Lodge in Antioch where we all stuffed ourselves with an incredible seafood lunch. Then it was off of the second leg of the tour to the Western Railway Museum. Everyone enjoyed a ride on the an old interurban car out into the fresh green fields and meadows. It turns out the car we rode on served in the San Jose and Saratoga area between 1903 and about 1930. Our oldest tour participant, a spry 91 years young, remarked that he actually took that exact car to school when he was a child!
