2005 Niles Canyon Railroad Tour

After meeting at a civilized hour on Mission Blvd in front of Ohlone College in Fremont, our small contingent of Plymouth Club members toured the short distance to Sunol and the Niles Canyon Railroad. The turn off of Mission and into the canyon is quite amazing, from a wide suburban road into a old winding two lane highway deep in a canyon with lush trees and water. The upper, dry, slopes the typical golden color of inland California. After a short one hour train ride we had a picnic in the shade of oak and California walnut trees at an adjacent public park. We had so much fun chatting that I totally forgot to take pictures of the antique railway equipment and the steam locomotive that pulled our train.
